“Therefore encourage one another and build one another up, just as you are doing.”
1 Thessalonians 5:11
I love watching the Lord connect people for His glory. As a hygienist, my favorite part of my job over the years is getting to visit with people I wouldn’t know otherwise. I have made precious friends through the years.
One of my patients came in one day and said her tooth needed a little attention and asked if we could just shore it up. I had no idea what “shore it up” meant until she explained. I heard the phrase again soon after that and it has stuck with me because, actually, she shores me up when she sits in my chair!
When you shore something up, you build it up to support it and keep it from falling.
Is this not what we do for each other in the family of Christ? My dear sister has shored me up more than once as she sat in that dental chair, and I have tried to use my workplace as a place to shore others up.
We should always be looking for an opportunity to encourage someone and point them to Jesus. One of the most beautiful things I see in my women’s group is when someone opens up and the rest of the women look at her with the love and compassion of Christ and then someone covers them in prayer. That is shoring someone up!
Make sure you have someone, or a group, that can lift you up when you need it! If you have been hurt by people in the past that should have been shoring you up, I am so sorry. I challenge you to spend time with the Lord and walk with Him through that hurt. Truth is, Jesus knows what it feels like to be let down by people so He understands and can heal your heart!
I pray today that the Lord shore you up and bless you!
