No Trespassing

"Therefore, since we have been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ. Through Him we have also obtained access by faith into this grace in which we stand, and we rejoice in hope of the glory of God. Not only that, but we rejoice in our sufferings, knowing that suffering produces endurance and endurance produces character, and character produces hope, and hope does not put us to shame, because God's love has been poured into our hearts through the Holy Spirit who has been given to us." Romans 5:1-5

Chances are if you're from rural parts of Texas you know what a purple fence post means. I walked by this fence and had to take a photo to share with you all.

For those that don't know, a fence post painted purple essentially means no trespassing. For some, however, it's an unwritten rule that if someone crosses that property line the owner may handle it how they see fit. Now you're wondering why in the world I'm writing a devotional about this...

If a man of the house paints his fence post purple to protect his family and territory, how much more can we trust that the blood of Jesus can protect us from our enemy? I don't mean that we won't have battles, attacks, or trespassers. I do mean that we have the right to say get off my land, get away from my family and in Jesus name leave.

The Word says that no weapon formed against us will prosper. I have to remind myself that it doesn't mean there won't be arrows sent my way, that I won't have to war against the enemy, but it does mean the enemy won't win. What the enemy has meant for evil, God will use it for good.

This is where faith is necessary. In Ephesians Paul tells us to put on our armor and he says to "take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming darts of the evil one." We stand in faith that the same God that preserved Daniel can preserve us, the same Savior that delivered Mary Magdalene can deliver us, the same Savior that healed the blind man can heal us, and the same Savior that defeated death is preparing a place for us. So no matter the weapon and no matter the circumstances, we can have faith that our God is in control.

The purple fence post reminds me of our authority in Jesus' name. It would be like a child in the family that knew his father painted the fence posts purple. That child could warn a trespasser that his father didn't allow anyone on their property. When we are a child of God, saved by grace, and covered by the blood of Jesus we have the authority to use His name to defeat the enemy.

Today I pray that we all walk in our authority. I pray we know who we are and we understand more of what the precious blood of Jesus did for us. I ask God to breathe a fresh faith into your heart so that you feel what I felt when I saw that fence post.

Heavenly Father, thank You for loving us and adopting us as Your children! Thank You for the authority we have to walk in victory. Please forgive us for any area we have "opened a gate" and allowed the enemy into our lives. I ask that You pour out Your grace and peace on my friends today! In JESUS' name I pray, amen.
