Good & Perfect Gift

"Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no change of shifting shadows." James 1:17

When I was a little girl my dad wrapped a beautiful ring for my mom in a toothpaste box and put it in her stocking for Christmas. This is my favorite piece of jewelry my mom owns because I remember the precious gift being secretly wrapped in something that looked ordinary.

Isn't this how our Heavenly Father gives gifts sometimes? Maybe we are expecting His plan to be wrapped in this beautiful shiny paper with a big bow, but it doesn't always look like that from the outside. THEN, He starts to peel back the packaging and reveal what is inside and it becomes this beautiful gift that we could never have imagined. We cannot fathom what He has planned for us when we seek Him first.

With God there are no shifting shadows. He lights up the darkness and His goodness is in everything He does. He is good when things are hard, and He is good when things are easy. His goodness does not change with our circumstances. We can trust that even when the packaging may look sketchy or damaged, His good gift is wrapped inside. We have to trust Him.

I pray today as you prepare for Christmas you are overwhelmed by God's goodness. As you hang lights, praise Him for being the Father of lights. As you wrap gifts, remember He is the best gift giver and His Son was the ultimate gift. If you are looking at your circumstances and questioning the packaging, keep your eyes on the Light of the world. God is a God that brings beauty from ashes. Blessings to you!
