“Create in me a clean heart, O God, and renew a right spirit within me.” Psalm 51:10
Have you ever noticed that when you clean out a closet it gets worse before it gets better? Things are packed in corners, and you discover things you thought you lost. You dispose of items that you don’t need. The pile outside of the closet just grows and it becomes a miracle that it had all fit in that small space originally.
When we ask the Lord to heal our heart it can be a process much like cleaning out a closet. It gets messy because He needs to get rid of some things and He needs to remind of us of some stuff so we can deal with it. When the Lord is given permission into the secret places of our heart His love is able to heal those areas that no one even knows about. The enemy will lie and tell you to keep it hidden in the back, but the truth is the Lord already knows and He is the only one that can bring peace and restoration.
I recently cleaned out my closet, but I had been procrastinating. I knew it would take time and energy and then I’d have to haul stuff off for donation. I dreaded the mess. It seems like an insignificant comparison, but we do the same thing when we know that our heart is wounded. Just like we keep stepping over or tripping over the same pile of stuff in our closet, we pretend those wounds in our heart are not causing us any problems. The truth is the Lord wants to free you of that mess that the world put in your heart. He is our Healer, He brings order into chaos, and He is waiting for you to invite Him to have full access to your heart.
My friend, God is good. Everything about Him is good. He loves you and wants to put His fingerprint on your heart. I encourage you to find someone that you trust to walk this journey with you if you need to. My prayer today is that you fearlessly ask the Father to reveal any area that needs to have His touch. I also pray He gives you the courage to share your story because it will give someone else hope!
