Can I Help?

Updated: Nov 13, 2023

"I will lift up my eyes to the hills- from whence comes my help? My help comes from the LORD, who made heaven and earth." Psalm 121:1-2

I love doing projects and cooking with my kids. I did, however, sometimes struggle to share my personal projects with them when they were little. I always admire those that can completely embrace the mess and not care how anything turns out!

This past week the Lord showed me some areas I had been trying to help Him. He doesn't need my help. His ways are perfect.

We can compare helping our heavenly Father to a child helping a parent. Even if we make a mess of things, He still loves us! Often times we assume or believe that He stays frustrated or angry with us. A loving earthly parent comes to the rescue to help, so how much more will our heavenly Father help us when we go to Him with our needs with a sincere heart.

We don't have to manipulate, force or fix situations. Peter wanted to help Jesus, and he attempted to when he cut off the ear of the servant. Jesus quickly healed the servant's ear and put Peter in place. Jesus could see the big picture and He was being obedient to the Father, but Peter did not understand what Jesus had to do for all of us. In our lives we have to be obedient to step out, but we also have to be able to wait on the Lord. So often our intentions are good! We see the vision and we just want to "help"! Just like a little kid sees what the parent is up to so they join in and then next thing you know the flour is on the floor or little fingers are glued to the table. God wants us to have faith like a child and understand His love like a child, but He does want to develop in us patience, perseverance and trust.

Father, today I ask forgiveness when I have stepped out of line and tried to help You. I understand Your ways are higher and I trust that You are bringing to pass the promises You have for me. I trust You! Thank You for helping me and lovingly cleaning up my mess. Holy Spirit guide me to know when to step out in obedience and when to wait for you. I believe that You work all things together for those that love You, and I love You! Amen.
