SPURS

"I will greatly rejoice in the Lord,

My soul shall be joyful in my God;

For He has clothed me with the garments of salvation,

He has covered me with the robe of righteousness,

As a bridegroom decks himself with ornaments,

And as a bride adorns herself with her jewels."

[Isaiah 61:10]

“Mama, can I wear my spurs to church?”
Long story short, I lost 2-1 to him and his dad and he wore the spurs.
He walked tall, tough and confident!

I have always thought it funny that other places often assume that everyone in Texas has spurs and horses. Well, our household didn’t have any spurs until Rayce decided he needed a pair. When he puts his boots and spurs on, he immediately feels equipped to be on the set of Lonesome Dove.

What if we could see ourselves clothed in righteousness? As a Christian, we are a child of the Father, adopted into the Kingdom and redeemed from our past. We are a new creation and we are clothed in His righteousness! Oh, what a beautiful new garment for us to wear!

We would never put a beautiful new wedding gown on if we were filthy dirty with mud and grime. In the same way if we are clothed in His righteousness, it should not be placed on top of guilt, shame, lies and condemnation. God help us to be free from the lies of the enemy! May we truly understand what Jesus did for us and be free from the things the world has wiped on us.

Spurs on boots are used for urging the horse to move forward. Sometimes we need a little urging ourselves to meet Jesus at the cross. What is holding you back? Do you still have old garments on? What is it you need to leave at the cross?

Oh sister, His righteousness sure looks good on you…
