FIXING OUR EYES

"Jesus answered, ‘I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me."

[John 14:6]

When I spoke at the women’s retreat at Mo Ranch I went for a walk and there was this amazing staircase up a very large hill. I didn’t even capture it all in the photo.

I am not going to fib, my legs burned and I was out of breath as I made my way to the top. As I walked up these stairs I held onto the hand rails because it was misting rain and the last thing I wanted was for someone to find me at the bottom because I had slipped and rolled down.

I also noticed that this beautiful walkway was so carefully carved out and at one time was a raw hill with briers, thorns, rocks and trees.

I would keep my eyes fixed on the step in front of me so I wouldn’t trip but occasionally I’d glance up and see the top to see how much further. Is this not how our journey with the Lord is?!

He makes a way where there was no way.

We may get a little out of breath and He may let our legs burn to remind us to depend on Him, but He has given us the Word, the Holy Spirit and other believers to be like hand rails to hold on to and keep us from falling.

He carves this path that keeps us from the briars and thorns and if we stay focused on Him and not go off wandering in the wilderness it keeps us from getting unnecessarily wounded.

Will there be some hurt on this journey?

Yes, because we are in a fallen world, but with Him and our eyes fixed on Him our perspective is different. We must fall in love and trust a Savior that loves us.

Heavenly Father I ask today that we keep our eyes on Jesus and follow the Way He leads. Jesus help us endure the difficult times as we take up our cross and follow You. May we be faithful and have endurance for the journey! Amen
